The Last Tree

These will be the last 'Christ-mas' trees that will ever be in our home.  The closer December has come, the more John and I have just wanted to avoid this season of year altogether.  Having Truth revealed to us about the pagan roots of Christmas and Easter this year has been tough to swallow.  It's always been our desire to follow the I AM and His Son, Messiah, in spirit and in truth.  So, we sat down with the kids while putting the trees up and just talked to them about what the heritage behind Dec 25th is all about.  We've also told them that we'll be celebrating the Hebrew Feasts this coming year, as Messiah did.  Then we came up with a brilliant idea!  Most of the ornamentation on our tree are hand carved, wooden ornaments.  We are going to take the ornaments down this year and turn them into decorations for wooden wreaths to hang in the livingroom.  We have plenty of ornaments to make 4 wreaths, one for each child to take into adulthood as a memory from their own childhood.

As it's Friday and sundown will begin the Sabbath, we are preparing in our home today.  I'll be making a roast in the crockpots, some stirfry veggies and fresh bread from the breadmaker.  We also picked up some sparkling cider for the kids.  John won't be able to make it home right at sundown, commuting in D.C. doesn't allow for that right now.  However, dinner will be ready for 6:30 sharp and he should be home by then.  The kids finished up a bit of light schooling this morning and are busy at chores to get the house ready for a restful Shabbat.  I'll add some pictures later of our first Shabbat meal.  Tonight is also the 3rd night of Hanukkah.  We hope to be celebrating this time of dedication in a more clear light this time next year.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me what day of the year it is, for REAL?!  Is there a widget I could download for my blog to help me/us stay on track?

Please keep praying for us, T.O. families.  We seek Messiah and Him alone.  John still has many concerns about this way of life and taking things in the Bible out of context.  I share some.  We simply want Truth in our home to be present, leading us as we rebuild and seek the I AM's Light shining on our path.

  4. Kellie, Enjoyed reading your post about your tree and so well remember ours. (http://www.thinkredink.com/YHVHCal/index.htm) is a link from Don Harris' website that you can use to download Biblical/Lunar calendars that keep you "right up to snuff" on the days. Congratulations on finding/hearing/reading/learning. What an exciting adventure you and your family are beginning. Just as we would never expect our babies to just jump up and walk around the room, our Father is patient as we take our toddler/baby steps beginning and learning HIS ways. Where we each have been is all in prophetic Scripture and it's His doing as He opens our eyes and ears. He's made sure we have His Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us. I began that walk years ago with only my regular NIV and KJV, prayer and our wonderful Holy Spirit who taught me and brought me along into understanding far beyond what I knew was my capability alone. Abba is so patient to carry us along at a snail's pace at times and fast as cheetah's on other times. Enjoy the ride as you learn and know that each of us have been where you are and are interceding for you along your way. Batya Wooten's Israel's Feasts and Their Fullness (http://www.amazon.com/Israels-Feasts)and A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays (http://www.amazon.com/Family-Guide-Biblical-Holidays/dp/0970181604) and Walk With Y'shua Through the Jewish Year (http://store.jewsforjesus.org/ppp/product.php?prodid=85) were each VERY GOOD books that were a great help in our learning and adapting process. (The Walk with Y'shua is a book to teach children- which, at the time, I knew was about my level of understanding and would be JUST RIGHT to learn with. :-)

  5. Thanks so much for the sweet encouraging comments and thoughts everyone. It means the world to us. I have the book about Biblical Holidays and we'll begin using that. I also have the Walk with Y'shua book for the kids. Earlier in the fall, near the time of Sukkot we'd started reading a bit of it to them. I'll get it pulled back out as well. I'll look up the Israel's feasts book now and the calendar site. I couldn't get Steph's calendar site to link up with my Yahoo Calendar last night....
    Shabbat Shalom All!

  7. Hi Kellie-
Praying for you and your dear family as you take these courageous steps. I cried as I read you blog and the comments. Our family has been on the same journey over the past 3 years. Be encouraged and try to connect with other like-minded believers.
    Blessings-Amy

  8. Our family had Michael Rood's calendar: The Astronomically and Agriculturally Corrected Biblical Hebrew Calendar. He is Messianic but he had help from Nehemia Gordan, a Karaite Jew and I don't know who else but he speaks of a friend at NASA who helped figure out what year it is. (It is 6010.) This is different from the Rabbinical calendar in use by Orthodox Jews and established by Hillel, which has been a day or two off, from what I have seen. I keep all three in my home. The Gregorian, so I can talk to people, the Orthodox so I can see what most Jewish and Messianic people are doing, and the corrected calendar so I can keep the feast on the correct day. Today is the 28th day of the ninth month. Here's a link: http://michaelrood.tv/biblical-hebrew-calendar
Shalom and Happy Hanukkah! Marie Schryver
